Released on February 22, 2023, the PlayStation VR 2 is the second reality headset developed by Sony and designed for the PlayStation 5.

Is it possible to change the headset cable?

Incase my pet chews the cable is it possible to replace it? If so, how?

I don't think anyone is answering the question. He wants to replace the cable. You only need the first 40 seconds of the video..... but where do you get the cable???

It is possible, but it is a bit of an involved process. Sony did make a Teardown Video, and it does not seem that replacing the cable is that difficult. You'll need to remove the headband from the goggles as shown in the 0:30 mark, and then disassemble the headband as shown at the 9:00 mark. Hopefully, this is helpful.

Its only theoretically possible at this point! While yes the breakdown video does show the cable is removable and therefore possible to replace. The replacement parts needed have not been made available to the public. Hopefully this will change in the near future but for now your only option is to go through PlayStation support and I've seen posts on other forums saying that Sony is charging up to $300 for an out of warranty cable replacement if its due to user damage and not a defect.

I have a frame with cable from a version 1 and I want to install it into a version 2. Will this allow me to operate the version 2. My cat severed the cable on the version 2.

It is not very easy but I have been able to repair cut cables on the psvr2. It doesn't look pretty but it works. The connector is also replaceble but it is not as strong as the original and I highly recommend using a small dongle extention afterwards to avoid straining the replaced connector again.

Hey bud, what type of usb c did you use it??

Is that just the PSVR 2 connector you opened up and fixed or a completely new one that you had to solder every cable on?

if full replacement, where did you buy that one from?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've had it since launch, and my cat apparently got bored last night and started gnawing on it while I was playing. Didn't completely chew through it, but may have punctured enough for the headset to cut out. Unplugging it from the console and plugging it back in got it powered back on. Seemed to be working fine. I'm assuming it could be soldered if the damage is severe enough, but I'm not going to try that until it happens/if I know for sure how easy/difficult it is.

My dog thought I was playing with her and ran up to me and hit the cable and ripped it out. Now the USB-C is all bent to hell. I looked and it can be taken apart. I just need a new cable or maybe see if I can fix it.

I contacted Sony today. They told me that any usb-c 3.2 cable will work.

I bought this from amazon today.

Along with a magnetic usb-c adapter. In case of trips, the headset will deploy without damaging the usb-c.

Hope this helps!

Hi! Can you please tell me how you contacted them? And the headset has a different connector, not USB-C.

tarafından

honestly what are you talking about? the PSVR2 has a proprietary connector on the headset side. not just any usb-c 3.2

tarafından

Yeh. It is a proprietary connector. Sony has has really not done a good job with these headsets.

Sony doesn't seem to wish to address the issue of replacement parts and appears to prefer charging people ~$500 USD to replace their headset with a refurbished one instead, so you're kind of on your own to fix the one you have as it is proprietary. Luckily the end that tends to break most often is just a standard USB-C 24 pin (12 pins per side). So you can, if you're skilled in the dark arts of soldering, replace the tip. It's super tiny work, and really no fun, but it's either that or fork over more money to Sony to fix an issue they shouldn't have in the first place, it's not exactly difficult to reinforce a usb connector.

The cable looks like this on the inside of the headset, so nope, not standard usb-c in there. That little white JST connector is for the "motor" controls according to Sony's teardown video.

Finding a straight-up replacement tip isn't always easy, so I tend to prefer just buying bulk usb tips that come attached to a PCB board then desolder and reconnect them where I need them.

A repaired cable should end up like this if done correctly, then you can just shrink wrap it or 3D print a new body, preferably one with more protection than the original that actually supports the cable and prevents repeat breakage.

All of this requires some skills and is not for the feint of heart as those usb-c pins are roughly 4x the width of a human hair.

Just for anyone interested and or desperate enought to be in a critical situation and willing to try a fix themselves.

i found these on aliexpress:

this one is for the ones with a high level of skills and decent equipment

aliexpress.com/item/1005008321558029.html this is pretty good, you can practice on the female connector

https://a.aliexpress.com/_Euyc7Le this one if your pcb is fine and just need the connector

This would easier to solder but its gonna leave a bigger puck

aliexpress.com/item/1005004971617737.html

T6B and up might work, careful some are female
