Stuck on loading screen

Hello,

I told myself not to update this MacBook and then I did it anyways, and it fell asleep during the installation process, and now I’m stuck at the main loading screen with the Apple logo and no matter what I do I can’t get into safe mode, or recovery mode. I’ve tried every possible key combination during the startup process and nothing works. So I guess my question is, is there any way I can salvage this MacBook? Can I just put in a new hard drive or something?

What OS-X where you trying to upgrade to?

Honestly I don’t remember, whatever the latest update was 5 or so months ago.

Try creating an external USB installer for MacOSX Snow Leopard.

Some instructions and Download link on how to create the bootable installer (you will need a second functioning Mac): https://apple.stackexchange.com/question...

Once the USB installer is created, plug it into your broken white Macbook. Boot the computer on while holding the Option key. Select the USB bootable installer and let the computer start up.

Eventually you will get to the MacOSX Recovery screen. Select reinstall MacOSX Snow Leopard. Follow the on screen steps.

I don’t like recommending alternate sites for OSs! They can be altered with spyware or worse.

Thx @danj for the recommendation. That was an oversight linking an alternative download location. I didn't realize Apple still had a valid download link up these days for Snow Leopard... I will update my link to your link...
