Can you use the Microphone in other programs? [an example is Voice Recorder] If not, you may have a dead microphone or a disconnected one. If you can use in the other programs, your Cellular service may have issues. If you can, try to use an external microphone and try the steps again.

Can you be heard OK when using the phone in loudspeaker (aka hands free) mode?
