Hi @toothlessp99233

Here's the maintenance and service guide, taken from this support webpage for the laptop.

Here's a link to the parts list for your particular model.

The parts list shows that there are 2 product variants for your particular model i.e. W7V75UA and W7V75UAR. The product number for your particular model is shown on the info label on the bottom of the laptop.

In any case both variants have the same HDD i.e. Part # 778192-005 1.0TB SATA hard disk drive - 5,400 RPM, 2.5-inch form factor, 9.5mm height (raw drive) which can be seen in the parts list of the manual on p.35 Item #16 as well as the top of p.60. Note: You're correct it is a mechanical disc drive and not a solid state i.e. SSD

As for the fan as can be seen in this link (zoom in on image) it is a 5VDC 0.4A fan . Usually fans etc only plug in one way so as long as the wire colours on the plug of the new fan are in the same order and as long as the HP part number is the same as in the original it should be OK.

Having 2 black wires is unusual though. Are you sure that one isn't a brown? The red and black are the power wires i.e. volts (r) and earth (b) and the other two wires are a temperature and speed sensor but it can vary depending on the fan maker which colour wire is used for which sensor e.g. white, yellow, blue, brown

a). If you want to buy a fan from Amazon, simply search for HP laptop fan 813946-001 to find suppliers that suit you best. Otherwise simply search for "HP laptop fan 813946-001" to find other suppliers.

It doesn't have to be the same manufacturer of the fan as the original, just the same HP part number. HP sources their fans from a lot of suppliers. The part number is used to ensure that the specifications are the same between different makes of fan. Fans having different specifications do not have the same part number!

As stated the fan specs are 5V 0.4A If it has the same part number then all the wires including the two sensor wires will be in the correct place. The sensor wires may be a different colour though as I explained earlier.

b). The HDD specs are shown in my answer. If you want you can replace it with a up to 4TB 2.5"sata SSD. Make sure that you get ones that include a 9.5mm spacer as the SSD is only 7mm deep and the HDD is 16mm deep, so you want the SSD to align correctly with the sata connector in the laptop.

c). The laptop supports up to 16GB (2 x 8GB) of DDR3L 1600 SODIMM ram (204-pin • 1.35V • PC3-12800) Ensure that you get DDR3L ram and not DDR3 ram. DDR3L works in both 1.5V and 1.35V ram slots whereas DDR3 only works in 1.5V ram slots and doesn't work in 1.35V ram slots which your laptop has got.

Your laptop has 4GB of ram as shown by the 2 x 2GB ram modules installed

If you follow what I suggested in my comment above for what to look for i.e. 4GB or 8GB DDR3L PC3-12800 ram and get 2 modules e.g. 2 x 4GB or 2 x 8GB then it should work.

It will then have either 8GB or 16GB of ram. Given the age of the laptop 8GB is more than enough. 16GB is a bit of overkill in my opinion

The manual shows how to remove/replace them

It's still my first time still putting this thing back together everything's working fine since I got it clean out thank you for the info but on the ram wood does it make the computer faster or just do something else I know the hard drive is supposed to give him more space but also helps it move a bit more I got the fan now I'm just waiting for it I didn't mean to know a bit more but when I want to give it to install the new fan or anything else do I need to power this thing down completely before removing the swing parts

@toothlessp99233

It is best to disconnect all the power from the laptop before attempting any work inside the laptop i.e. disconnect the charger and the battery.

There is always power somewhere on the motherboard even when the laptop is turned off.

The power button is NOT a power isolating switch. Its function is to signal the BIOS chip as to what the user wants to do i.e. turn on, turn off, wake etc.

You do not want to be touching anything that you shouldn't or accidentally slip when using tools as you may cause electrical damage that might not be noticeable until you try turning it on again after the repair is complete. Mechanical damage is another matter - so be careful

There's a wise old saying in electronics repair - power off first, on last when doing repairs etc. This means disconnect the power (battery) as soon as you can after opening the laptop (which is turned off first) and only reconnect it at the last moment - in laptops this means just before you close it up during the reassembly procedure.

Thank for the help on this laptop
