Why is my phone not charging fully

Generally it means that the battery has not taken a charge, so the phone will run as long as it's plugged in since the wall outlet is providing it's power, but once you unplug it there's no power available.

Your phone isn't all that old, so it would be unusual but not unheard of for the battery to have failed. Here are some things to check.

First, make sure your charger is putting out power. You can verify this by plugging a different device into the charger and checking that it's working.

After that, make sure you've got a good cord. Either swap out the cord for a different one or again plug the cord into a different device.

Third, check the charging port. Take a magnifying glass and a bright light and look inside the port. If there is any dirt, pocket lint or anything else in there it can keep the plug from making contact and charging the phone. Clean the port out with some 90% or higher concentration isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, a microfiber eyeglass cleaning cloth and a toothpick.

You didn't mention, but does the phone give any indication of charging when it's plugged in? If it shows that it's charging then I'd say it's probably time to replace the battery. If there's no reaction to being plugged in, then my suspicion would be that the charging port is damaged and should probably be replaced.

The good news on your phone is that the charging port is on a separate little circuit board so you don't have to swap out the motherboard or have any fancy microsoldering done to replace it. Here's a guide showing how to do that.

Note that the site is originally in French so there are some idiosyncrasies with the translation to English. "Battery" comes across as "drums", and "flex cables" translates to "tablecloths", but otherwise the instructions are well done and complete.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest ordering both parts. When they arrive, open the phone up and swap out the battery and see if that does the job. If not, you'll already have it open and can go ahead and change out the charging port; it never hurts to have a brand new battery in your phone so even if it isn't needed to fix the phone it's not bad to have.

Oh, and don't forget to order a sheet of precut adhesive to glue the rear case back on when you're done. I usually buy a couple; they're cheap and all too easy to mess up; if you get it off by just a little it can't be repositioned so you'll be glad you have a backup if you're like me and don't always get it perfect on the first try.
