Display issues! Replace the LCD, the entire display, or the MBA?

Bought my 2018 MacBook Air new. It still performs well, except for a handful of vertical, top to bottom multicolored lines 1/16" inch wide, arrayed on the screen as a column about 1" across. (Works fine, without the artifact, on my trusty old Cinema Display.) Should I replace the entire video assembly, or can one or a few elements be replaced to eliminate the streak? An LCD fix seems delicate. But replacing the entire display is expensive. Older MBAs often fail and new MBA's are priced sky high. What's been your experience and/or solution(s)?

To help diagnose this issue, hook it up to an external display. The retina displays cannot be repaired, only replaced and they are hard to find at a decent price as Apple is requiring recyclers to grind them up.

This has been my solution so far. Works fine with my old Apple 19" Cinema Display, especially with new apps to control coloration, contrast, etc. But it's not cheerfully portable, even around the house. I can live with the artifacts if necessary, like on the road, but they are annoying, especially when I have to share with a friend or a crowd. Also, I've been warned by a semi-amateur repairman friend that the artifacts, which have been around for a year or so, portend a complete video breakdown -- at which point, I wouldn't be able to check back with all the smart people at iFixit! Is he right? Due to the high price of new Macs, my inclination is to keep this setup for now and buy a Mac Mini as a spare. But if you think otherwise, let me know and why. Many thanks! -- Bob

@bobjacobson2192 "or can one or a few elements be replaced to eliminate the streaking?" can't be done. This will require a complete replacement of the display. I would replace the complete assembly, since it is easier and less likely to break more things. Unless, of course, you got a boatload of experience :-)

Definitely not cheap, but less than a new computer. Only you know what you can afford and what you want to spend you hard earned money on.
