My USB-C connector charges but does not work when using a pheripherial

Hi all.

My MacBook from 2017 (model 1534) has a single USB-C port. The port is used for charging and it works well. However, it does not work when plugging in any other peripherals such as a USB mouse. This computer model only has a single USB-C (or any other port) so it causes a lot of disruption.

I have tried turning on and off, cleaning the port and have reset the SMC without any luck. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Well there’s two ways for this to go! Either the port has issues or the logic board has issues!

Let’s assume the port is just worn-out, then replacing it should do it here’s the guide and the needed part is posted within it Retina MacBook 2017 USB-C Port Replacement.

If that fails, the logic board needs repairs or replacement which can be expensive.

Thanks. Is it possible to bad port yet still allowing charge? How can one work but not the other?

@dandreu There are different power and data pins. If all the charging pins are fine but a data line is damaged then it can cause it.
