What is the best method of cleaning the charging port on my 2017 iPad Pro? The charging notifier audio and indicator goes on and off if the connector is jiggled, and often the iPad isn’t charged after a night plugged in. It does the same with different cords, so it must be the port.

Everything points to this. Insert the lightning plug into the port and take a photo of the place where the plug enters the housing. Show here. I'll tell you what to do. Maybe it's just a piece of dirt blocking the port space, it happens all the time (you will see it in the photo - as above). Otherwise, due to the broken brackets of the lightning socket, it will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to do it yourself without damage. You can find a good repair shop and order a port replacement. It won't be cheap, but it will certainly be done well and only once (which I encourage you to do). Privately, I am a supporter of repairs on your own kitchen table, but unfortunately it requires a bit of equipment and a steady hand. Especially in the case of iPad repair

I tried entering this as a comment as per the site’s pop-up, but that didn’t seem to process the images.
The 4th prong from the left looks more “silvery”, and the far right one is dark. Which is why I was considering perhaps some electronics cleaner or alcohol on one of iFixit’s micro swabs, and perhaps some DeOxit. But I don’t want to cause more issues with such attempts.

It looks like completely corroded, so all thinks I write above keep valid. Because a screen is laminated and port itself soldered to a motherboard, micro soldering skills and some equipment are required. My advice - find a proper repair shop and pay for repair. With no experiences for that jobs you just destroy your tablet (I did it many times and I can say: focus and patience every time - in this model: every step of four can be difficoult and high risk of full dammage of ipad).
I see it on the iFixit site ( iPad Pro 10.5" Lightning Connector ), but though I have some soldering skills and equipment I’m not micro-soldering experienced enough, certainly not with my frustrating tremor. I’m not sure Asurion is a capable repair option for this task, but will check. Otherwise I will have to ask our Portland, OR, Apple Store(s) for help.
But still, can an iFixit microswab and appropriate fluid like alcohol, electronics cleaner, or DeOxit be deftly used on the port’s contacts without risking harm to a board, a seal, or other component?
you can try, I suggest isopropanol 99% in a small amount. Apple won't help, look for an unauthorized company with a reputation and certified opinions. Unfortunately, the lightning plug fits completely into the port, nothing sticks out, so it's not about mechanical blocking. This is corrosion, and it is probably advanced, and will not be able to be cleaned if the connections are eaten away (but you should try). I'm keeping my fingers crossed, good luck.
Update: I used DeOxit and a small foam swab in the port, then a Kimwipe folded around the blunt end of a toothpick to rub it relatively dry. At first it seemed only partly helpful as charging was still not consistent. But the following day, and ever since (a month or so), the charging worked flawlessly.
