Black screen after hard drive replacement

Hi,

I replaced the HHD to an SDD following the instructions on ifixit. Before gluing the screen with new stripes, I tested the devices by turning it on. Everything worked and I was able to re-install the macOS. So far so good.

Next, I used the stripes to finalize the process. It seems, that something got wrong during that step: my screen is black now.

So, I re-opened the iMac again and checked, whether I forgot to connect a cable or damaged anything in course of the process. Didn‘t find any hints, though.

Next, I connected the two cables, put the display back (w/o the stripes) and started the device. I am able to see some content on the screen, but it‘s very dark.

=> My assumption is, that the backlight is not working. Maybe I damaged the cable or even more. Would you agree?

I would like to start with replacing the cable. Question: which one (of the two)?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Apology for the rather late reply.

Thank you for this hint. This is helpful.

Would the recommendation be to rather trying to replace the power cable first?

Thanks in advance!

@eugen59161 - Let’s get a good set of images of your power cables logic board connector to make sure it’s OK first as well as the cable connector end as well.

@danj, certainly.

I updated the question and added the images.

Btw: I reconnected everything once again - unfortunately no improvement

MANY thanks in advance!!!

@eugen59161 - Well the cables and connectors look good! So that’s not the issue. That only leaves one possibility, could you have flipped the displaces data cable plugging it in backwards? While the backlight and logic uses the the power cable there are a few lines that can get damaged within the data cable if you reverse the cable plugging it in the wrong way and then powering the system.

Hm, that‘s a very good question. To be very certain with my answer, I actually opened and closed the display again. While doing so, I noticed that there is almost no chance I connected incorrectly. I.e, I am 99,9% certain that I connected correctly.
