Monitor screen going grey-black colour

Idk if this is an xbox problem but i can't find any other place for help. So I was playing a game and my screen just went black but it wasn't full black, it was like a dark grey black if you know what I mean. I have unplugged all the cables and plugged them back in and did nothing. Sometimes it would display the splash screen or whatever it's called for a spilt second and then go black again. The game was still running and there was sound, I just couldn't see. Does anyone know what to do?

i am haveing the same problem I got an xobox 1 for Christmas this year and it was working for 2 weeks and it was not working after that and it is like a blashie and grayie screen

@ryder5547 check your monitor. All of this sounds like a bad backlight (except the going grey-black colour). Let's rule that out.Try this:

Turn your xbox on and see if you can remember how to start a game etc. (it will be great if you get to a point where you hear the sound).. Next, use a flashlight and shine the beam at an angle against the screen. Do that in a darkened room. See if you can make out shadows or shapes of your desktop. If you do, then it is your backlight that has failed.

Let us know what monitor you are using.

Of course there is always the possibility that this is an HDMI issue, Use a new/different cable as well.
