Looking for a second opinion on this odd display issue

I've been doing a deep dive on a problematic A2159 here in the shop. The left and right LCD cables have no indents or indications of "flexgate" failure. The backlight is not what is flickering and the display behavior persists even with the camera and backlight cables disconnected. Furthermore, moving the LCD panel back and forth does not increase or decrease the frequency at which the screen shows this distortion.

I believe I've narrowed this down to a T-CON board failure but would love a second opinion. This post is newer and came up as a part of researching this issue, but this other post that @danj graciously contributed to as well contain a wealth of information.

Here's the fun part: the flickering stops if I watch a full screen video - even YouTube in Safari full screen. There are no blips, flashes, crazy strobing lines, nothing. Just a beautiful screen acting normally. As soon as you take it out of full screen it goes back to flashing and strobing lines.

The image shows the telltale signs of a damaged LCD panel (micro fractures). The top glass is a bit softer than the back side so the back often fails which is where the transistor logic is located as the process of etching the coatings makes the glass brittle

The colored bars on the right and black bars is what tells me the lines are damaged.

Sadly time for a new display assembly unless you are upto the task of replacing the panel its self.

Though the image looks like physical damage, I chose that particular image because it was showing lines in both directions. The LCD panel is in perfect physical condition (as far as appearance goes). Check out this video of the behavior. It flashes like that when I move the cursor around. If I stop then the screen will flash black (data signal, not backlight) every 1-2 seconds. https://i.imgur.com/4Mb9YSZ.mp4

That's why I'm suspecting the t-con board. What do you think?

To make matters worse, this display issue is *only* present when booted normally. In safe mode and in recovery, the screen behaves perfectly. Also, to rule out an issue with the logic board I used a donor LCD panel and it works perfectly in all boot modes.

@cstout - What does an external monitor show? A clean image or this.

@cstout - OK, so you’ve proved display assembly needs to be replaced.
As to why you see a different reaction in Safe Mode has to do with the scan frequency which gets into which lines are used. Think it this way we have five columns each column is a pixel group, now at the higher frequency each column is running a discrete pattern. Now what happens at the lower frequency? Let’s say four of the columns share the same pattern. This is why you see a difference.
