How to open a Lego Duplo train?

Hi, I'm trying to fix a Lego Duplo train which works on batteries. The train doesn't ride as smooth and powerful as when we just got it so I thought having a look inside to see if there's some dirt or whatsoever. To open it it has 3 screws underneath the cap for the batteries. Once I removed the screws there is still no way to get the top part from the bottom. It is clicked on it somehow but no way to get it moving (which makes me wonder why they put screws there in the first place, if they have been left out they could save some money on the screws and still no one would be able to open the thing). Please help because I'm about to break something......!!!

I've managed to open it and fixed it, but I'll post some pictures of it later.

Here are some pictures of the train after I've opened it and fixed it. Unfortunately some damages, but I guess I can live with that.

Unfortunately I also don't have the exact answer for someone who's trying to open such a Lego train. For me it was just a matter of endless prying, brute force in all possible direction, and lots of frustration.

Hey, @najimu

Take a look at the side of the train where the top and bottom should clip together. If you could get a prying tool or spudger in there, you could separate it and open the train to access the internal components. Good Luck.

Hi @russellrepairs,

Thanks for your suggestion. I did that for a long time, prying every little corner I could find. But it's just so tightly connected together. I cannot imagine that someone can open this thing without very special equipment and without damaging it. I've opened lots of devices in my life, but this....... Unbelievable. Eventually I did manage to open it, but unfortunately there are some scratches and deformations on the plastic and one of the securing clips broke off. I repaired the train too, and closed it properly again. So it was worth the struggle in the end. I believe the remaining clips and the screws will hold it together still, so I'm not afraid it will ever get loose.

But still I do want to report this somehow to Lego. I really think this needs to be improved. It's very simple mechanics which should be able to be repaired by any adult. If they can open it!! Does anyone have suggestions on how to make this clear to Lego?

@najimu You can contact lego support on the website, or reach out via email, which is also listed under the support tab of their site. Good Luck.
