Power button/novo button turns on laptop, blinks once, then turns off

The laptop suddenly stopped working. Things I have tried:

  1. Removed the main battery and press and holding the power button for 30 seconds.
  2. I tried to find RTC battery but this model doesn't look to have one? I'm not sure
  3. I tried to disconnect other cables to the motherboard and press the power button for 30 seconds.

Another weird thing is that afterwards when you press the Lenovo vantage button with the star and s (after f12) it acts as a power button and does the same thing. It turns off afterwards. It all started with some windows 11 update, it probably updated the BIOS then it also broke the speakers. I did a clean install thinking it was the drivers. Still didn't work. Then I checked the speakers with 12v battery and it was responding. It was working then just without the speakers. But now it wont turn on both with power and novo. Does anyone have the same issue and fix? Thank you!

You don't mention if you removed the hard drive. Try that and see if you can get into the BIOS/UEFI utility by repeatedly pressing the F2 key.

IdeaPad 5 Pro Service Manual

Since your problem started with a Windows 11 update the above sounds like a good place to start.

Thank you Mike! I tried removing the ssd and the WiFi too but no luck. I wonder if the motherboard is fried.

Hi @j4laptopfix

I don't think a Windows update would fry the motherboard. Have you tried disconnecting the battery (page 29 in service manual) and just plug in the charger?

tarafından

Ah I see. Yes! I have tried unplugging the battery and just the charger. It still does the same thing unfortunately. Do usb c hub fry motherboards?

tarafından

@j4laptopfix "Do usb c hub fry motherboards?" Not that I know of.

I just reread ypur initial question. Could you explain what you actually did "Then I checked the speakers with 12v battery"? Which speakers? What 12V battery? You have me worried.

tarafından

My bad! I used a 9v battery to see if the speakers work and it reacted to the 9v so I thought that speakers were still good. I then used the laptop again with the usb hub with the power plugged in the hub so now I’m thinking it must be the usb c hub that broke the motherboard.
