@carlmcilvaine this "black ink like dot" sounds like a broken display. We would have to see it to verify this, but going by your description, it sure sounds broken. Time to replace it.
Since iFixit does not yet have a specific guide for that use something like this video to help you with that. Since you did not tell us which display does that, we can't suggest anything else.
While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit.
