Display backlight failed after liquid damage.

This MacBook had water spilled over the keyboard. The original owner turned it off and placed the laptop in silica gel beads. After a week in the beads, she tried turning the MacBook on but the screen had no backlight. After a closer examination, the motherboard has no noticeable damage or corrosion, in fact the laptop looks fine from the inside. The only damage I found was one of the connectors going to the screen was burnt. The main connector to the motherboard looks fine. I am wondering if the motherboard may not be damaged and it was just the screen that failed. If anyone has knowledge on where I can test to see if the backlight circuits are working, that would be greatly appreciated. Due to not being able to give a definitive diagnosis, the original owner recycled the MacBook with us and bought a replacement MacBook of the same model from us.

There is a big article on wiki if you are able to perform electronic repair or at least able to use a multimeter.

since there was water damage on the backlight connector first thing you have to check if it really outputs an image, just use flashlight and look for apple logo or some interface items.
if there is no image, most likely you will see that edp_aux line is shorted to ground. unfortunately it is not fixable on all 13" devices because this line goes straight to the CPU.
post hires photo of visible damage on edp connector and in most cases it would be clear.

The screen outputs an image just fine if I shine a light on it. The computer itself works just fine but the display has no backlight. The trackpad also has no haptic feedback but I have not looked into that yet.

disconnect microphone connector on the left and test the device. if nothing changes, disconnect right speaker + inspect audio IO connector.

@joshfriesen - If you see the faint image on your internal display drives us to the backlight lines between the logic board and the display. Reference this guide Step 7 MacBook Air 13" Early 2020 Display Replacement you need to follow the guide to this point so you can inspect the cable and the displays T-CON board. If the cable is damaged it can be replaced MacBook Air 13" (Late 2018-Late 2020) Display Cable, if the display side is damaged then someone with very good soldering skills might be able to replace the boards connector. If the cable and T-CON are not damaged then you’ll need to debug the logic boards backlight power service.

Using a external monitor, keyboard & mouse so you can see if in Clamshell Mode the external display works.
