PS5 Liquid Metal question

= =

So I have dropped my PS5 up to 5 times, and not more than a foot each time.( family including sister) So I have a question about if the Liquid Metal might have leaked. Because I saw tronicsfix try to fix a ps5 that was dropped from a staircase, and the Liquid Metal was just all on the foam, and didn't leak. but the drop was kinda at the side. So I am just kind of worried. And I have been using it, and it's perfectly functioning. Would I know if it had leaked like not turning on or something? Because mines works perfectly fine.

Hi!

As long as it works, do not worry about it. You will probably have noticed it already.

The only way to find out is to open up the PS5 and to check. But it's probably still there!

Note: The foam and the heatsink should hold the liquid metal on the place where it need to be.

If you want to replace you can follow this guide: How to Apply Liquid Metal in a PlayStation 5

Hi! @dan0 THANK YOU SO MUCH! you seem like a specialist in this stuff. So I have a question, if it were to have leaked, then wouldn't it have caused a short on the board, or would the short only be caused if it were on a specific part of the board? Just asking so I can be more confident that it's fine. And also is the foam barrier really strong? Thank YOU!

Hi! My pleasure! If it did leak, it would have caused shorts on the motherboard, doesn’t matter where it was. They advise to use thermal paste for desktops/laptops as if it leaks it can damage other components. Yeah, the foam is meant to protect the motherboard for leaks and to hold it on the place where it need to be. So it should be fine :)!

@dan0 sorry but I just need to ask and confirm a few more things, if you feel annoyed please don't answer, but I'll just ask them here if you want to answer them. So I forgot to mention, I was on vacation for about 2 months. and I left my PS5 on a leaning item, making the PS5 in a sort of unflat position and leaning on either side.(I don't remember.) So would the Liquid Metal maybe have came all the way to one side, making it at the edge? Also could you give me a checklist to confirm everything about the Hardware for LM? (without opening up.) TY!

No, the PS5 can be set vertically or horizontally. The Playstation can handle a lot. Even if you put it upside down, it's still fine. Throwing it on the bed shouldn't be a problem too. The motherboard is protected by many screws and the casing is protecting it too. If the liquid metal leaked, you will notice it immediately. It will short straight away, meaning that the PS5 won't turn on or just stay on for a few minutes and then turns off straight away. I'm sure your PS5 is fine :).

First why have you been dropping a $600 game system in the first place my ps5 stays where it's at in my house??? And to answer your question that foam barrier that is around the the cpu is Specifically designed to be the thing that stops the luquid metal from leaking into the rest of the board it has to be there. but also having your ps5 in the horizontal position stops the luquid metal from pooling up on the bottom of the cpu so you might do that to make sure everything is OK. But try not to drop it anymore for real. And why have you dropped it many times again??
