missing right fan screw standoff. where can I find one?

i bought this macbook second hand and the right fan screw standoff (the one where the 4.0 mm wide head screw should go) is missing. i searched quite a bit on the internet but couldn't find anyone selling them. can they be found or should i just ignore it? thanks in advance

This small screw may be quite hard to find, you could try asking TheBookYard in Liverpool UK or Mac recycling. The 'standoff part that the screw fits into is actually fixed to the logic board so I doubt that will be available anywhere.

I don't think there is any real problem without the screw, the fan 'Might' rattle or vibrate a little at times but other than that it shouldn't be a problem to use the unit. My neighbor has a 2013 15" and wanted me to replace his speakers, when I opened it up there was only 1 screw holding one of the fans and if I remember right just 3 screws holding the logic board inside! It was still working OK!

it's actually not the screw that i couldn't find. it's the standoff

@brucc0 The standoff meaning the rubber thing that sits on top of the fan?

Or the small bit the screw goes into which is fixed to the board?

the small thing the screw goes into that was replaced with what seems to be silicone. i edited my question to include a photo

@brucc0 Let me open up at similar unit (I have one here), in the meantime might be a good idea to gently brush clean all the dust and stuff away on the WiFi port ;) The standoff is under the part the screw goes into? Without tearing down my unit here I think I know what you mean, it is raised a bit from the board to have the screw thread bite?

exactly. it's like a tiny metal cylinder with a wider base where it makes contact with the logic board

@brucc0 - You live in one of my favorite countries! Had hoped to move into the lake region but COVID killed that.

Anyways… the shoulder screw should be findable. What not listed here on TheBookYard’s parts breakout 2015 15” MacBook Pro screws and fittings I’m sure if you post them an email they likely can scare one up for you!

hi, dan. i remember you. you helped me 2 or 3 years ago with another macbook pro whose display was acting weird. yeah italy's pretty but i'm not a fan of the crazy hot summers we get in the area i live in. i'm half italian but i guess i'm not italian enough haha

the part isn't available on that site either, currently. if i'm ever desperate enough, i'll try sending them an email. what d'you think? should i urgently look for this part or will i be fine ignoring the whole thing? thank you

tarafından

@brucc0 honestly, I wouldn’t worry about it. My MacBook (same model) had the stand-off shear off when I attempted to remove the fan. The fan is otherwise secured fine and not loose or cause of any concern. You could replace it if you want to but it’s probably fine.

Remember that it has to be lined up exactly to fit the screw back in which may take many attempts disassembling and reassembling everything and removing the board each time etc etc increasing the risk of damaging other components and connections... it's really not worth to attempt doing.

tarafından

yeah, i’ll probably end up just leaving it as it is. thanks, everyone. much appreciated

@livfe - There is no alignment issues here.
