Released November 2020, the PS5 console features vastly upgraded visuals and an innovative new Dualsense controller. The space-age black-and-white color scheme is a noticeable departure from PlayStation designs of the past.

SU-101217-2 Error Code (Safe Mode Boot Loop)

When pressing the power button once, PS5 will display the reinstall system file screen prompting to reinstall the system file from a USB. The reinstallion fails with the code "SU-101217-2" and displaying "Something went wrong." This is after the screen where the install and resetting defaults settings go to 100%. It can boot into safe mode too with all options available. I have tried every option and combination of options with no luck. Trying to update instead of reinstalling, results in the same "SU-101217-2" error. What is the cause of this? There is no information online on the root cause.

Hi Will!

Checked at Sony's, but this error code isn't there in the database.

When I search for it, most people think it's related to the WiFi chip, but there is no concrete cause. So they assume it's the WiFi chip.

Just to check, does the disc drive still work? As in making sounds?

Do you have another spare USB drive? Would try this as well. Make sure that you have the "PS5 Console Reinstallation File". And not the update file!

You can download the software here: https://www.playstation.com/en-us/suppor...

When did this happen btw? Just out of nowhere? Was something already broken before, or not?

It has been a few months since I have looked at this PS5. If I remember correctly, it did this after sitting in sleep mode over night. That is all the information I got. I have tried the reinstallation file and update file both with 3 different USB's. The PS5 is the digital edition, so it does not have a disc drive.

Alright. That makes it more difficult to check what it is. It must be something on the motherboard. It could be the WiFi chip, but could also be the SSD. I think you are better off to replace the whole motherboard... Sorry! You could also contact Sony in this case to see if they can repair it (hopefully for a fair price). Or a local repair shop to see what it is. Otherwise replacing the motherboard is your best bet...

Dang, I'll go run UART on it to see if it throws any errors

Sorry! Please let us know how that goes!!

i have same problem, i think SU-101217-2 is system crash, because you can't reinstallation system to any way

if you get the highest authority of the host(not safe mode),then you probably can reinstallation system.
