Mid 2010 Model A1278 / 2.4 or 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo processor

Will a MacBook Pro 2010 take 2x8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM?

Hello iFixit Community,

i just wanted to know if the MacBook Pro mid 2010 would take 2x8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. Currently having 2x2GB DDR3 sticks installed. I've read in other forums that it may work or not, and apparently macOS is very picky about the ram.

Currently running High Sierra 10.13.6 on the MacBook

Thanks!

Core 2 Duo CPU - Supports PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3 memory;

16 GB maybe possible is also confirmed here.

I try to use a non-sales outfit for references as they are often to eager to sell you something. The best source is EveryMac MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" Mid-2010 Specs here we also see the note which is important!

“Originally, both the official and actual maximum RAM was 8 GB. However, as confirmed by site sponsor OWC, if running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, updated with the latest EFI, and equipped with proper specification memory modules, this model can support up to 16 GB of RAM.”
