Reinsert memory card on DSC T100

Hi,

I have tried 3 different cards, and each time the camera tells me to reinsert the card. I wonder if there's something wrong in the memory slot, since the card will not reject normally (by pushing it in) but requires slight prying by catching the top with a sharp object.

Any help is appreciated.

@shinnen I am sure you have already double checked to make sure that you have a memory stick that is meant for your camera. The wrong stick can give you issues like this as well.

Since it seems to have mechanical issues (if you are 100% sure you have the right memory stick) as well, it appears as if the issue here is caused by your memory slot. It's time to disassemble your camera and to have a look at the connector etc.

To work on your camera you can get the service manual under the Document tab on this page Sony Cybershot DSC-T100

If you find anything "odd" or have a question about any particular step etc, you can always post images of that with your Question. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that.

Hi,

Yes, it was working until a few months ago, then suddenly I had trouble getting the card out. I may have yanked it out and screwed up the works; I don't recall. I took the cover off this morning, but it looks like a majour job to get at the SD housing, let alone get inside of it; which I assume is sealed and may not be repairable. I've looked at the manual, but don't see anywhere that talks about fixing the card slot internals. I was hoping that someone on the forum could tell me if it's repairable or at least replaceable by a do-it-yourselfer. The camera works fine, and I have the picbridge cable so can download images; but that limits me to 32 mbs (of internal memory) which won't go far.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. I wouldn't bother with it, but it takes really nice close close-ups.

@shinnen looks like the connector is soldered to the SY-171 board. I checked the part number for it 1-817-913-41 and darn, it's expensive. At this point, I would disassemble the camera and at least take a look at the board/connector. It is always possible to replace it with one from a donor camera (possibly buy a broken one at place like eBay etc. Absolutely possible to get fixed by a DIYer. On here we all are DIY and there is always somebody around to help with things.

Hi again,

Could a poor board connection account for both it's refusal to recognize the card and the difficulty getting the card out.

If not, then it's probably better to go straight for replacement, as opposed to fixing the connection, then still having the removal issue?

What do you think?

@shinnen no, I don't see how it could. Personally, I would opt for the replacement.

Right. I thought as much.
