The April 2014 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Air features refreshed dual-core i5 and i7 processors, plus slightly increased battery performance.

Upgrade RAM From 4 GB > 8 GB

Board Numbers: 2013-2014 820-3437 / 2015-17 820-00165

The Macbook Air 2014 & The Macbook Air 2015 A1466 models both use the same LPDDR3 SDRAM modules. The 2014 unit I have here only has 4 GB RAM so I want to swap over the 8 GB RAM from a 2015 donor board. I understand that we also need to swap over a resistor or 2 to make them readable by the system (A video on this). But my question is can we simply lift them from the 2015 board and transplant them directly to the 2014 board? As it is unclear if they used new RAM modules or ones taken from another board as I am concerned regarding the solder balls on the RAMS.

i have done this upgrade for my A1466 macbook air.

i replaced 2gbx4 chips with 4gbx4 chips & changed ram configuration by changing resistors.

i used new chips, but it works for chips pulled from other board.

you have to reball the chips using stencil.

it works great!

The Modules I have on the 2015 board are SK Hynix H9CCNNN8JTAL ARNTD 507A which I cannot see on a datasheet https://www.datasheets.com/search?q=H9CC... so I don't know if they are 4 GB or 8 GB as the 2015 suffered a GPU failure :( No stencil here so this looks like it has to be shelved for now.
