Pixel 7a screen removal issues

Hi - I have a pixel 7a and the standard ifixit kit with suction cap and picks. I have heated up the iOpener several times in microwave, left it on screen of phone several times and tried different sides. However, even with quite a fair amount of force it wont budge. I am not sure what else to try - the pick feels too big for the task?

Hi Ben,

Based on the description in the guide that states, "the screen is strongly adhered to the frame", I presume that to mean it's harder to remove than your average screen. They follow that up with the comment, "it requires significant heat to soften the adhesive underneath", telling me that you may need to heat the adhesive more than you might think was safe.

If you have a hair dryer, I might suggest setting it on high heat and blasting one end of the phone for something like 3 to 5 minutes before you try the suction cup; in fact, if you can position it right, leave it blowing on the phone as you try to create an opening for your pick. Again, they keep reinforcing the need for heat with the statement that you should heat it "until it's almost too hot to touch"

I generally prefer to start out with a metal pick like the iSesamo and use the plastic guitar picks to keep it from re-adhering as I go around the edge of the phone. A curved blade X-Acto knife would also be a good choice here.

Springy steel blade features a smart tip design and a handle with a great no-slip grip. Effortlessly pops open iPod, iPad, iPhone and many other tablets, smartphones, and devices. Görseli

Unfortuntely this still didnt work for me - tried a few times with a hair dryer, phone was so hot i need a glove to touch it, pulled with so much force with the suction cup that it would pop off. shame.

ive got to say, im even a little annoyed that i have to pay for postage to return this product. The tools and instructions they send do not work for this product. I wouldnt recommend to buy, wasted money and time on trying this out.

Had the same issue but since my screen was broken, I just chipped the whole screen to slide under it and break most of it out and then heated it up again to get the remaing stuff off the edges. Why try to save a broken screen when you are replacing it. Also the kit they recommended does work for most of everything else but this screen is held down by the power of God.

Now to my actual complaint, the stupid thing they recommended to heat the glass up with that goes in the microwave, it sucks. Sucks bad. Melted in 15 seconds in the microwave and made a mess. Also the new screen fingerprint reader doesn't work and won't take the install either from Google website. Needless to say, my kid has to live without it.

The fingerprint reader issue has come up innumerable times here, enough so that the iFixit staff wrote a guide containing the best practices in order to get the reader working again after a screen change. Here you go.
