LCD screen remove and replace

HP has typically been very good at providing repair information for their computers, and indeed they do supply a service manual for yours.

Unfortunately, they seem to consider the entire display as a single assembly and don't take it down far enough to remove the LCD itself for replacement. It appears there's a somewhat incomplete guide available on iFixit that is supposed to be for LCD replacement.

My suggestion would be to use the HP guide in order to remove the display assembly, then refer to the iFixit guide to finish up with removing the LCD if your object is to just replace the LCD and not the whole display assembly.

One thing to note is that you may be able to locate a replacement LCD based on the computer's model number, but you can probably increase the number of parts to choose from by pulling the LCD first. The thing is, most laptop manufacturers - including HP - don't make their own LCDs; rather they buy them off the shelf from other manufacturers. So if you look on the back of the LCD itself, it will have a manufacturers label with the company name and their model number. Searching based on that information may give you more suppliers and occasionally a reference to that same panel being used on a different computer altogether that you could buy that screen for and have it work on yours.

Hopefully that'll get you going. Might I suggest you take lots of pictures as you work and once you're done you could use those photos to create your own iFixit guide to the screen replacement? It's easy, fun, and will earn the gratitude of the repair community and anyone who comes along after you with the same problem.
