@jennyevans let us know exactly what happens to your pump. Let us know what symptoms it gives you. Those pumps are actually fairly bulletproof. Let us know if your F-150 has a separate steering fluid cooler. I wonder if there is an issue with the alignment of the pump bracket. Of course, you also want to inspect the steering lines and hoses for any kinks restrictions or other damage.
Here is the Ford F150 2011 2014 Steering Chapter from the workshop manual. It should help with the diagnostics of the issue. Let us know what you find out.
