Starts only when the battery is removed

What is the full model number of the laptop as shown on the product information label on the bottom of the laptop?
Just verifying that it doesn't start at all when the charger is connected and the battery is still installed in the laptop, is this correct?
Does the laptop indicate that the battery is being charged when you connect the charger and do not start the laptop i.e. just charge the battery only?
