Repair and disassembly guides for the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, announced and released in 2021.

No display, not turning on. Charging at 15vV 0.48A 7.2W

Hey everyone,

Trying to fix a switch for a friend, she told me that it hasn't powered on for a few months. I tried to overnight charge it but no dice.

I then ripped it apart to look for any obvious damage but it looks pretty good inside. Outside has taken a little bit of a beating since it's her child's switch.

Just picked up a little doohikie from Amazon to test if it's receiving power and it reads:

Now I believe these are good numbers but not 100% also not sure of the next steps. Maybe replace a chip or test some fuses?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi!

It could be the charge IC that need a replacement. It’s most likely motherboard related. But it also could be the battery that can’t hold any charge anymore…

I always test with a fully charged battery (most of the new batteries do have some charge). And see if it turns on, if not, then there is something faulty on the motherboard..

Could also be some fuses, you can do a continuity test to be sure.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

Thank you for the reply koppie007,

I don't have a second battery on hand just yet to test. Is there a way I could test the battery that's in it with a multimeter to see if there's a charge?

Also could I just pull the battery out and connect it to the charger or will it not turn on without a battery installed?

Thanks again!

Hi!

It probably won't turn on without a battery...

You can check here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-volta.... There are some pictures regarding how to test the battery.

Also, what happens when you put it in a docking station?

When I plug it into the dock, the little green light blips on for a second and then goes out but nothing appears on the screen.

I'll test out the battery tonight with the link your provided and report back. Thank you very much for your help!

Alright. The best thing is to test the battery now yes. Thank you too! Please let us know how it goes :)!
