All 99+ models are equipped with two oxygen sensors. One upstream Oxygen sensor, and one downstream Oxygen sensor. The upstream oxygen sensor is mounted in the exhaust before the catalytic converter, and the downstream one is mounted in the exhaust after the catalytic converter. There is some great info on how to check and replace the Oxygen Sensor right here. Hope this helps, good luck.

It is threaded into the exhaust manifold on the rear side of the engine. You will need a special socket that fits over the sensor and the wire lead.

A link to that special socket would really improve this answer.

The downstream is a ##&&% considering where it is and on my 01 Grand Prix the thing sits about 6 inches from the ground your best bet would be to use a hammer break the bad sensor then socket it off I did it with my upstream last night also unhooking the exhaust helps a bunch with reaching the sensor I'm in the position to where I already wasted money on it but I feel it would be better to put a straight pipe on it and eliminate the sensor completely
