Knowing exactly what model of lens you have would help. I think what's likely the case though is that some plastic tabs which are used to mount screws to and hold two sections of the lens together have probably broken off. Based on the video (and without knowing exactly which lens that is) my guess would be that the tabs that would be a part of the fixed barrel (the section of the lens which has the focus window) and the focusing unit.

All things considered, it likely wouldn't be too difficult of a repair, depending on if you have any experience working on electronics. The replacement part should be relatively cheap too. However, that assessment is just based on my best guess to what the problem is, and without a parts diagram you'd have to just open up the lens to see if that is what broke or if the issue lies elsewhere.

Based on the photo, here’s what I can tell:

This looks like a loose or partially detached lens barrel

The section of the zoom barrel near the gold ring appears misaligned or separated from the inner part of the lens. This is a common failure after a drop with lenses like this (especially Tamron USD and similar designs).

Typical name for this issue

  • Loose lens barrel
  • Barrel separation
  • Zoom barrel detachment
  • Internal guide/track break
  • Broken internal helicoid guides

All of these refer to the same type of physical damage.

❗Why this happens

Inside the lens there are small plastic guide rails and screws that keep the zoom barrel in its correct track.
When the lens hits the ground, these parts can:

  • crack
  • pop out
  • bend
  • or completely break

When that happens, the outer barrel moves freely or sits crooked — exactly like your photo suggests.

🔧 How to fix it

You have two options:

A lens technician can:

  • open the outer barrel
  • re-seat the guide rails
  • replace broken helicoid tracks
  • reassemble and recalibrate focus

Typical repair cost (varies by country):
€60–€140, depending on damage.

For a Tamron-type zoom, this is the most reliable fix.

2. DIY repair (only if you're comfortable with tiny screws)

You would need to:

  1. Remove the rear mount and plastic shroud
  2. Remove the zoom barrel retaining rings
  3. Re-seat the outer barrel onto its guide tracks
  4. Replace any cracked inner guide screws or rings

⚠️ Warning:
These lenses have fragile flex cables, AF motors, and precise alignment.
If forced, you can permanently damage AF or zoom movement.

✔ To confirm the diagnosis:

Please check these quick tests:

Does the zoom ring feel loose or uneven?
Does the lens wiggle if you gently twist the front barrel?
Does it make grinding or clicking noises when zooming?
Did the problem appear immediately after a drop?

If you answer yes to any of these, it is definitely a barrel guide / internal track break.
