Thermal paste on SSD?

The SSD replacement kit contains a tube of thermal paste. Should i really use that? If so: on both sides?

I would use it on the bottom where it contacts the heat sink, but NO, not on the top, where you place the cover plate. don't put much, a very thin layer, spread across where the heat sink, (the metal ring) contacts it. Reasons:

  1. Thermal paste improves heat transfer between the SSD and the heatsink and helps maintain "optimal" operating temperatures.
  2. Thermal paste can reduce the risk of overheating and thus extend the SSD's lifespan.
  3. Clean any old paste or thermal pad that may be present (Q-tip and alcohol) before applying the new paste.

Good Luck!

Thanks. I currently have some thermal (conductive) tape on the bottom (display side). That works fine. It pushes the ssd up just a tiny bit, which presses it against the cover plate. It loses most heat through contact with the cover plate, so it doesn't require anything on top for me. The tape was scraped from an old harddisk enclosure

I might replace the tape with some copper if I'm not afraid of shorts for even better thermal conductivity.

PS tape is a lot less messy imho ;-)
