NAND Upgrade on iPhone 12 Pro Max

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a iPhone 12 Pro Max board and need to upgrade NAND storage.

The question is:

When replacing the NAND on this model, is it mandatory to use a software tool like U3Tools (or similar) to reprogram/initialize the new chip?

If so, what is the correct procedure after installing the new NAND?

Should I read before the data on the original NAND chip and then paste it on the new one after?

Thanks

Most shops use a mill to grind down the old NAND chip as it's safer and less trauma to the logic board. As you can see in this YouTube vid iPhone 12 Pro upgrade storage capacity SSD Nand from 128GB to 512GB

And yes you do need to setup the NAND chip using Apples DFU method or U3Tools. If the persons data is important you do need to make a back up. As it sounds like you've never done this I would recommend finding someone who has done a few as it's not that easy! Or at least try out on your own phone you don't care about as there's a strong chance the first one will fail.
