Car cut off while driving

First step is too determine if the problem is fuel related or ignition. Start with a code scan and solve any engine related codes. If that doesn't fix it then when the engine dies, check for spark, if you have no spark fix that problem. It could be the module, the reluctor, the cap or rotor, the ignition coil, ignition wires even the spark plugs.

If the engine has spark when it dies, put a fuel pressure gauge on the engine. If the engine quits and has no fuel pressure then the problem is the fuel system. It could be the ECM, wiring, relay, fuse or the pump.

Obviously this diagnosis if not for the faint of heart nor the uninitiated. Your best bet may be a mobile mechanic. The car is rather old so an older mechanic may be more familiar with your cars systems.
