How do I fix my keyboard?

The Nitro 5 AN515-54 pretty much requires almost a full teardown to replace the keyboard, but it is doable with patience, zip locks, tags and lots of digital photos.

• First, only replace it was a brand new replacement (OEM or 3rd party).
• Then, check directly with Acer on how much a brand new, OEM keyboard costs and the part number. You'd be surprised that sometimes the OEM is quite reasonably priced and Acer is pretty thorough on getting you the right part. Armed with the OEM part number, you can also go shopping to compare pricing.
• Then take a look at the iFixit post for replacing the fan here as it is a pretty good guide on getting almost all the way to your kbd.
• Digital photos are just about your best friend for cable routing and connection (again, Post-It arrows are helpful in the photos unless you can edit the photos as you go).
• As you remove screws, make a note of where they go and write detailed notes on shorter/longer screws (i.e. bottom case screws. The long one goes in the center hole). Take pictures with your written note for the shorter/longer ones. I am old school and use the PostIt arrow stickies to indicate the screw locations at each level. Then, bag them with your note.
• Clean your fan, heatsink (OK everything) and inspect your battery for any swelling. If you are comfortable, clean and replace all thermal adhesive/pads while you're in there.
• Take your time and reverse your steps to assemble.
• All laptop screws just need to be "fingertip firm" and will usually stay in place just fine with the original adhesive, but you can easily pick up a new tube (by color. A little goes a long way!)
