Screen has vertical lines

I just bought a 60" Samsung TV (model UN60JS8000F) off Facebook Marketplace. The seller said it was working perfectly fine until they had a lightning storm one night. After that, some vertical lines appeared in the display.

He said the area in which he lives is notorious for power surges. As the TV still has power and sound, I suspect the TCON board took a hit. I've been watching a lot of YouTube TV repair videos lately and several times I've seen people "work around" the issue by putting tape over some of the pinouts on the TCON's ribbon cable.

Before I try anything else I'm going to try power resetting the TV and also a factory reset. However, if neither of these steps solve the issue I'd like to try the tape method. Is there any way to definitively identify which pinouts are malfunctioning (if that is indeed where the fault lies)? More often than not, it seems like the techs just used trial and error.

Also, if anyone with this particular model has experienced the same issue and can provide some advice/insight as to what I can try to fix the issue that would be greatly appreciated!

@bodrey the Tape-off will not work if your T-con board or main board have failed. A tape-off will not restore your T-con function.

Looking at your image, this will not be a T-con board issue. That is an issue with your Source Driver CoF that attach the buffer boards to the LCD panel. Remove the back cover and locate the buffer boards. Take a couple of well focused images of where those boards connect to the LCD via a "film" (plastic feeling) ribbon cable. Let's see if there is any visible damage.

Hi OT,

OK, thanks for the quick response and assistance. It could be a few days before I'm able to follow up with you. I'm in the process of renovating my house right now. So, the place is in a state of disarray at the moment.

Hi again OT,

OK. So, as it turns out when I went to pick up this TV he had another TV that was suffering a similar issue. He offered to sell me that TV as well for a song so I bought it. It's a Samsung 70"; model no QN70Q6DTAF. I've already created a separate post for it on this site. You can view here:

I haven't looked at the 60" yet but it's kind of like '6 of one, half dozen of the other'. Both were subjected to power surges and are exhibiting similar symptoms and could have the same issue. In any event, my efforts to identify the problem have not been successful yet.

I'm going to try power cycling the TV and also performing a factory reset but I'm not hopeful. Unfortunately, I think there's more to it than that, but it's worth a shot.

Consider the thread on the QN70Q6DTAF closed. I have it on good authority that the panel is bad. Thus, beyond repair. OT, I'll post some pics of the buffer board ribbon connections as soon as I'm able to pull the back off.
