So this xbox 360 got into my hands, which had gone through a power spike or an outage. And now the dvd drive is not reading disks. It opens and closes fine, but when you put in the disk, it spins it for about 2 seconds and then just stops. The owner replaced the disk drive, but the issue is still there. Help

What I usually do in this case, is to replace the laser deck assembly with everything on it.
Usually this does work. If not, it's most of the time motherboard related... It could be the PCB which is having issues here (make sure to transfer this from the original drive to the new drive).
First things first, try a new laser deck for the original drive and see what happens!

So I got the old disk to run the game once and then never again. The new disk doesn't even want to read it (assuming because the drives are linked to their original xboxes and the new drive wasn't linked) They spin fine as far as I xan judge from the sounds, so most likely it's something outside of the disk. What can I check besides the wires?
When using the new drive, you need to transfer the PCB from the old drive to the new drive. Otherwise it won't read games...
If this is done, but still can't read disks, it could still be related to the laser. The only thing you can do, is to replace the SATA cable, but this is most likely not the culprit here. If it's failing after all of this, you need to check the motherboard side...
