What do I do with a PS3 with no power?

Well, first, I opened my ps3 and tried to see why the fan goes so high and fast. When I took off the heatsink/fan, the GPU plate came off too so I put new thermal grease/paste/arctic silver ceramique on it and the 5 little ones on the GPU after the plate came off and put the plate back on it. I also cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol around the top of the GPU and I think I might have gotten alcohol on the capacitors of the GPU but, I dried it all out carefully. When I put everything back together, I got no power at all. My PS3 is dead. It will not turn on no matter what. What do I do? :(

Have you tried to check your power supply to make sure it is working?

tarafından

Actually, no....I have no idea how to do that. Doesn't it need to be connected to the PS3 to find out if it works?

It is all back together? Check on here where your power supply is PlayStation 3 Power Supply Replacement Do you own a multimeter and have some basic knowledge how to see if it has any power?

tarafından

No. I have no ohm meter or multimeter. I have never done that before.

Majin Riddler, the first thing you want to do, is to check the leads from the power supply to make sure that it is working.

After you check your PSU and find that it works properly, check the fuses on the logic board for continuity.

Cool. Thanks man. It actually works. What I found was wrong was that the power ribbon was damaged. I ended up snipping the tip of it and plugged it in and it started up with no problems whatsoever. My PS3 is alive again :) Thank you for your help. I also wanted to add that even though I had replaced the thermal paste/grease, etc. with the Artic Ceramique, my fan after 5 to 10 minutes will kick up at high speed anyway. I'm just glad it works again. If there is anyway to lower the fan speed so as to stop it from running so high because I believe it just might be overheating then, I'll just either get another fan or have it reballed because I already had it reflowed. I'd do this just to ensure longevity and the assurance that it won't go belly up on me with another YLOD, the blinking RLOD, GLOD, etc. so many anmes for these things. Again, Thank you :)

I would not slow the fans down:) I think it comes down to that it is starting to run hot. Double check the thermal past and the heat sink. Probably time for a reballing. Best of luck to you. Good job in getting it fixed.

Should I send my PS3 to endless electronics? They are the only ones that I know who still reball PS3s today. It's 30$ for a mandatory diagnostic and then 80$ for the reballing.

Thanks again for the help. Yeah, I got lucky to find that video clip on the power ribbon :)
