My Laptop won't turn on

Sounds like it could be a power or hardware issue. Try a hard reset first: unplug the charger, remove the battery if it’s removable, then hold the power button for about 20–30 seconds. Reconnect the charger and try again.

If it still lights up for a second and shuts off, it may need a hardware check—RAM, battery/charger, or motherboard could be involved. Avoid repeatedly forcing it on if it’s getting hot or smells unusual.

Try a full power refresh in case it is a corrupted BIOS and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

a). Disconnect the charger from the laptop if connected.

b). Remove the main battery from the laptop.

c). Disconnect and remove the RTC battery from the motherboard.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop. Go to p.37 (47 of 151 pdf) and p.56 (66 of 151pdf) in the guide to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery, respectively.

When the RTC battery is removed measure its voltage. If it is <2.6V DC or the battery is >4-5 years old, replace it. The part number is 734300-001. Search online using the part number only, to find suppliers of the part.

d). Press and hold the laptop's Power button operated for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

e.) Reconnect the RTC battery (or its replacement).

f). Reverse the above steps to re-assemble the laptop.

g.) When the laptop is completely re-assembled, connect the charger and try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts OK there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been completely reset back to its default settings. Once the date and time have been adjusted the message won’t appear the next time that the laptop is started.

If you had previously changed any user defined settings in BIOS to suit whatever specific hardware configuration that you had for the laptop, then these will have to be set again as well.

If it powers on for a second and then immediately shuts off, I’d check the RAM first if it’s accessible. Reseat the memory and try one stick at a time if there’s more than one. If that doesn’t change anything, then I’d start looking at the motherboard and power circuit. A quick visual inspection is worth doing, but there may not be anything obvious to see.
