Released in October of 2019, the Ridgid R860054 Driver/Drill was produced for many years, once a part of the Ridgid “R” line of power tools. The Ridge Tool Company manufactures and distributes all Ridgid tools and software. The Ridge Tool Company started in 1923 with the release of the Ridgid Heavy-Duty Straight Pipe Wrench and quickly became an international company. The Ridge Tool Company’s product line rapidly expanded over the years, and in 1966 the Ridge Tool Company became a subsidiary of Emerson Electric.

The R860054 drill was one of the first to include a battery with a charge indicator light allowing the consumer to see their battery charge status. Beyond the battery, the drill shares many features, such as a forward and reverse switch and a fully adjustable clutch. The R860054 features a two-speed gear train for low-speed, high-torque, and high-power applications and another for high-speed and low-torque applications. Many reviews on the R860054 indicate that the Drill/Driver is excellent for occasional use on small consumer projects. However, it quickly breaks down when utilized regularly on large construction projects. Consumer feedback points to the chuck as the most damage-prone component of the drill.

The Ridgid line of power tools is easy to differentiate from other brands due to the implementation of a contrasting black and orange color scheme and "RIDGID" written on the side. However, identifying the Ridgid R860054 from other similar-looking Ridgid drills is challenging as many Ridgid drills look identical. The easiest way to identify a Ridgid drill is to examine the product number, such as R860054, found on the left side of the drill's body.
