It's very easy to clean out a blocked pipe if something is stuck in it. Depending on how your sink is you may not even need tools. This guide will show you how you can easily take care of this issue and unclog, or retrieve what is blocking your pipes.

When you first go to clear your sink, you should check how the pipes are connected.

Twist the higher bracket until it comes undone.
If you don’t have the leverage tabs or the slip nut just seems stuck, wrapping a rag around it can help you torque on it (counterclockwise from top) without hurting your hands so much. Using a damp rag can help it not slip over itself and the plastic. A rubber jar opener also works.

Repeat the steps in reverse to put it back together again.
Captain Obvious says: Hand tighten the nuts enough so the wedge fitting or washer compresses enough to not leak. The wedge action is what does it. (Put the wedge washer in the right way so the flat part is against the nut and the sharper angle fits in the pipe bevel.)

Smalll repairs can be done on a diy basis, but if drain clogging a regular problem the best solution would be to turn to professional pipe cleaning and restoration. i.e. pipe rehabilitation.
