Cut away any remaining material or residue so that the chair foot is as clear as possible.

Depending on the strength of the adhesive that secured the old footing, some of the residue left behind could be tough to remove. In this case, it may be best to keep some rubbing alcohol handy as a solvent to assist in the removal of this residue.
