If there is any stubborn alkaline on the screw plate, sand the affected tab down until you have a good connection and STOP. The tabs are VERY THIN.

With the battery holder disassembled, clean the clip by soaking it in vinegar.

If affected, clean the tabs on the screw cover with a toothbrush or Q-Tip.
