Now we need only press the new rod into place. You may find that this is easier to do with the clam-shell closed as the two parts of the hinge will naturally align.

Tip: if the skewer is a little tight, crimp one end a little to give it a slight "nose" or chamfer to ease it in. The tiniest drop of oil can be applied to the hinge beforehand, too, but in my experience, pushing it home with a firm prod does the trick and ensures it remains secure.
