Fan was making horrible noise at times.

Repair was really simple. Basically remove the bottom plate to get inside the computer then removed 3 screws holding the fan in place. Used a plastic pry tool to gently disconnect the fan from connector and put the new one in, in a flash.

Just make sure you have a plastic pry tool. I've got one in a "mobile phone tool kit" from defunct RadioShack. They were also including in some iphone glass repair kits I've purchased in the past. I'm sure an electronics store would sell them in a "mobile phone took kit" as well.

Check the iFixit list before you just click on the tools they recommend - they should also recommend an anti-static wrist loop. Also use an egg box or daily/weekly pill dispenser to keep all the little screws as you go.

Had to change the battery in my 5 year old MacBook Pro 15"

The service and delivery speed was top notch!

Installed the new battery I got from Ifixit.

What bothers me is that the new battery is not as good as I expected.

It drains fairly quickly, almost the same speed as the old one.

The situation is somewhat getting better.

Is this normal? Did I do something wrong when charging for the first time, etc. etc... Or are those batteries just some second grade product?

The fans on my MacbookPro had been running constantly due to some software that seemed to need 1 CPU to run constantly to check web pages. After finally figuring out which software to trash and reducing use of the fan, the wear and tear of this bad software took its toll and eventually the fans started to periodically make a grinding noise.

The directions from iFixit were great, the parts arrived quickly and it took about 30 minutes to complete the repair. No problems were encountered.

My brother's Macbook Pro was making some interesting sounds on top of overheating. We did some research and came across ifixit.com how-to articles. From there, I ordered the fans (used), and the problem was fixed!

Removing and replacing the right and left fans (Macbook Pro 15 mid-2009 2.8 GHz model) was simple. I ordered the required tools (Philips #00 screwdriver, spudger, & anti-static wristband) along with the fans, unscrewed the bottom plate, popped out the connectors with spudger, unscrewed fans, and then did the reverse. Simple!

2 pieces of advice: use an anti-static wristband and be careful while handling the spudger to disconnect fans.
