Solid Red Ring of death on this first generation Xbox360 (no HDMI out) kept a coworker from using this unit for about 2 years.

Disassembly using the guide from ifixit was a snap. I had actually opened the unit up before the kit arrived, so I did not use the opening tool. I had the T8 and T10 torx in my toolkit as well as a spudger like the one in the kit, but ordered it anyway to take advantage of the replacement hardware included. The included screwdriver, btw, was well above expectations as far as quality. After the kit came in, I used a heat gun and infrared thermometer to reflow the gpu. After it cooled down, we mounted the heatsinks using the new hardware and applied the thermal pads. Reinserted the mainboard back into the metal box and attached fans, airflow shroud and dvd drive along with the ir board on the front. hooked it up to a small tv and tested. It booted like new. Powered it back off and finished the assembly and tested again to be sure. Success.

If you're going to use the kit to repair your xbox, my advice is to definitely invest in the tools to do the reflow. It will make the repair last a bit longer.
