If the copper tape was missing someone inexperienced has already attempted to fix the ipod and most likely even further damaged it. people who are not careful or know what they are doing usually get white screens during ipod repair due to carelessness. replacing the copper tape wont fix this

i doubt it can be replaced with a ssd. IDE technology is very dated with the introduction of SATA... however you could easily find a replacement IDE drive on ebay from an older laptop... in this case though you must use recovery discs or install a new OS
