Amazon Echo 2nd Generation Will Not Turn On
Your Echo will not respond to any input and does not seem to be on.
Disconnected Cables
The Echo uses ribbon cables to connect all three boards in order to function. Disassemble the device and check that all ribbon cables are properly connected to their ZIF connectors. To learn how to connect and disconnect the ribbon cables, refer to this guide. For instructions on the complete Echo disassembly, follow this guide but do not replace any components.
Faulty Power Adapter
Make sure that the power adapter included with the Echo is plugged into a power source and the Echo. If the Echo still does not respond, consider replacing the power adapter.
Faulty AMP Board
This is the circuit board that directly connects to the power adapter and will be the first board you see when you disassemble your Echo. If there is any damage, refer to this guide for replacement.
Amazon Echo 2nd Generation Will Not Connect to WiFi
Your Echo will not connect to your Wifi.
Faulty MLB Board
This is the circuit board that manages most of the Echo's functions and will be the third board you find when you disassemble your Echo. If your WiFi is working and in range of the Echo, then the MLB Board may be faulty. If the ribbon cables are properly connected to their respective ZIF connectors and the Echo still does not connect to the WiFi, replace this board using this guide.
Amazon Echo 2nd Generation Bluetooth Fails to Pair With Devices
Your Echo will not connect to any Bluetooth device.
Faulty MLB Board
Check that your Bluetooth device is functioning and available for pairing. If the Echo is still unable to pair to your device, then your MLB Board may be faulty and will need to be replaced. For replacement instructions, use this guide.
Amazon Echo 2nd Generation Light Ring Will Not Light Up
Part/all of the light ring does not light up.
Faulty MIC Board
This is the circuit board that is attached to the top of the Echo. It will be the second board you find during the disassembly of the Echo. Ensure that this board is properly connected to the other boards as the LEDs require power to light up.
If the LEDs still do not light up despite the Echo working properly, consider replacing this board using this guide as the LEDs are near impossible to replace individually.
Amazon Echo 2nd Generation Will Not Respond or Play Music
Your Echo does not respond to any orders or plays any music.
Disconnected Cables
The subwoofer is connected to the AMP Board through a 2-pin connector with a red and black cable. If this cable is disconnected, connect the cable back into the connector.
If the above directions did not fix the issue, then remove the subwoofer from the case and inspect the wire leads. Make sure the red lead is soldered unto the positive and the black lead is also soldered onto the negative side. If they are not soldered on or are in the wrong orientation, solder them back into the proper orientation. For instructions on soldering, refer to this guide.
Faulty speakers
If the subwoofer is properly connected and still does not produce any sound, then the subwoofer is faulty and will require a replacement. Replace the subwoofer using this guide. If the tweeter on the AMP Board does not work, then replace the AMP Board using this guide.
Faulty MIC Board
The Echo may not be responding because some or none of the microphones on the MIC Board are functioning properly. Ensure that all of the circuit boards in the device are properly connected.
If all boards are connected properly and the Echo still does not respond, then the MIC board is faulty and will need to be replaced. Follow this guide to replace it.
