If you press the Blink Video Doorbell and it does not react, follow this troubleshooting guide.
Bad Weather Conditions
Sometimes environmental conditions, such as heavy winds and excessive heat, can affect the blink video doorbell’s reactivity.
- Cover cases, that are compatible with blink video doorbells and can handle heavy winds, rain and excessive heat, can be purchased. They have a “hood” which protects the camera and makes it easier to see from the app/live feed (look at the picture for an example of a case).
Debris
Since the blink video doorbell is outside, debris can get into small holes of the doorbell and cause it to be unresponsive.
- To clean a Blink video doorbell, you can use a soft, slightly damp cloth with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals. A microfiber cloth, which is designed for cleaning camera lenses and prevents scratches, is the best for cleaning the doorbell.
Battery Failure
No matter what, lithium-ion batteries will degrade over time and will need to be replaced.
- Remove the batteries from the doorbell for 5 seconds and then reinsert them. If the red LED flashes, press the Reset button on the back of the doorbell for five seconds. Your doorbell is now ready to be added to your Blink account.
- If there are no red LED flashes, try using new batteries.
- If you notice that the battery appears swollen or puffy, review these instructions.
Software Failure
The blink video doorbell can have trouble connecting to a Wi-Fi network, causing a “Doorbell Offline” message to show on the app.
- Check to see if the Blink app is updated.
- Make sure the blink video doorbell is connected to Wi-Fi. If it is not, reconnect the device or change the Wi-Fi network that it is connected to.
- Restarting the doorbell may be required by taking the doorbell off its mounting, removing the batteries, letting it sit for five minutes, and then putting the batteries back in. This will reset the Wi-Fi connection.
- If none of the previous solutions work, delete the device from the app and then reconnect it.
Frozen Screen
Sometimes the system may freeze on a black screen and appear unresponsive.
- Check to see if the Blink app is updated.
- Power off the doorbell, take out batteries and press the reset button on the back of the doorbell for five seconds.
Detection Failures
Motion detection on your doorbell can be very sensitive and send multiple notifications at a time or none, calibrating the camera to your preference is ideal.
- Make sure if your camera is not notifying you, make sure the Blink system is armed and activate motion detection.
- If you are getting constantly notified, make sure to adjust your camera sensitivity and set specific activity zones for the system to ignore.
