Lenovo Thinkpad X240 Troubleshooting

The touchpad is sometimes unresponsive.

Once the touchpad gets dirty it may seem less responsive. The touchpad may only be covered and can easily be cleaned off to fix this issue.

The battery life is short so the laptop will power off soon without a charge.

Make sure the power adapter is plugged in and that the light is on. If the light is not on while the power adapter is plugged in, the power adapter is faulty.

Plug in power adapter and make sure the light on the power adapter is on. If the computer only turns on with the power adapter connected to it regardless of how long you charged it, then the battery is faulty and you should replace the battery.

The battery has a certain amount of power it can store and over time this amount can decrease. The easiest fix to this problem would be to replace the battery with a new one.

The CP will often take more time to do simple task.

When there are too many things such as documents and programs, the laptop might work slower than the usual. You will probably need to delete some old files that are no longer in use.

The laptop will overheat and possibly shut off or freeze.

If fan is getting too hot or not working the fan may possibly be overworking itself and is not strong enough for the laptop. In order to fix this a new fan must be installed.

Once the fan gets dirty it may seem less responsive. A quick clean will speed up the fan making it work faster.

If you are using your laptop outside, the sun might affect the laptop’s fan. It will probably make the laptop hotter and cause the fan to work harder. To fix this, taking the laptop to a cooler area should help.

Plugging in the power supply and powering on, the Green LED turns on at the power button and the keyboard backlight flashes once and sounds like the fan is turning. The Fn LED flashes once green and stays green for about 4 seconds and then stays off. The red LED on the top of the screen “I” in Thinkpad stays lit red and/or red LED on the top of the screen “I” in Thinkpad blinks red 3 times when plugging in the power supply and not even powering on or doing anything else.
