The camera will not turn on
Flipping the power switch does not turn on the screen nor the green power indicator.
The battery is dead
If the camera does not power on, it might just need to be recharged, especially before you first use it. Remove the battery using this battery replacement guide. Attach it to the battery charger, and plug the charger into an outlet. Once the battery is charged, reinstall it into the camera.
The battery's contacts are dirty
If the camera does not turn on after recharging it, the battery may not have correctly recharged. Remove the battery using this battery replacement guide and look at the metal contacts. If they appear to be dirty, wipe them clean before trying to recharge the battery.
The battery is missing or faulty
If the battery itself is malfunctioning or missing, refer to this battery replacement guide to replace or install it.
The motherboard is missing or faulty
If the battery is not the problem, it might be the motherboard. Refer to this motherboard replacement guide to install or replace the motherboard.
The screen stays black
The camera's monitor remains black even when the camera and the green indicator light are turned on.
The camera is in viewfinder mode
If you know the camera is on but the screen stays black, it might be in viewfinder mode. Press the Fn5 button above the top left of the screen to switch viewing modes until the screen turns on. Each time you press the button, the camera will cycle through three modes in this order: viewfinder mode, monitor mode, and automatic switching mode.
If the camera is in viewfinder or automatic switching mode, the screen might not turn on.
The environment is affecting the camera
A highly charged environment may prevent the camera's screen from turning on. Large amounts of static electricity or electromagnetic waves can interfere with the microphone and other camera functions. If you are near radio towers, high voltage power lines, or other electrical equipment, move the camera away before checking if the screen works.
The screen is faulty
If the monitor remains black regardless of the viewing mode or the location of the camera, the screen itself may be malfunctioning. Refer to this screen replacement guide to install a working screen.
The screen is cracked or bent
The screen's pixels work, but the glass itself is cracked or bent out of shape.
The screen panel is broken
If the rotating screen is damaged in some way, refer to this screen replacement guide to replace it.
The camera shuts down randomly
While in use, the camera powers off unintentionally.
The battery ran out of charge
If the camera powers off during normal use, its battery may have run out of charge. Remove the empty battery using this battery replacement guide, attach it to the charging unit, and plug in the charger to an outlet.
If short battery life is a recurring problem, you may consider turning on the Economy setting in the Setup menu, which makes the camera suppress its power consumption and turn itself off when not in use.
The motherboard is faulty
Random shutdowns might be caused by a malfunctioning motherboard. Refer to this motherboard replacement guide to install a working one.
The camera's system glitches out
Items on the screen are distorted or appear to be malfunctioning. The camera and screen are unresponsive to button presses.
Your device's software is outdated
If the camera's system begins to malfunction, your software may be old and still full of bugs. You will need to update your software to the newest version by downloading Panasonic's update onto a SIM card and inserting the SIM card into your camera. The link to view and download Panasonic's update is here.
The motherboard is faulty
If your camera's system is up to date but it still malfunctions, your motherboard may be faulty. See this motherboard replacement guide to install a functional one.
The battery fails to hold charge
The battery charges correctly, but it gets drained quickly when the camera is in use.
The battery has become worn out
If your battery does not stay charged as long as it used to, it may have reached the end of its lifespan and will need to be replaced. Refer to this battery replacement guide to remove your inefficient battery and install a new one.
All batteries become inefficient after repeated charging. To prevent your new battery from running out quickly, turn on the Economy setting in the Setup menu, which makes the camera suppress its power consumption and turn itself off when not in use. This will let you avoid constantly recharging your battery.

I recently bought an FZ1000, and I like the camera, but I turned on the self-timer in the menu and am not able to turn it off. According to the instructions, I should be able to turn the drive mode dial to the single shot mode, and the self-timer should be turned off, but no matter what position the drive mode is set to, the self timer is on, except when in the Intelligent Auto Mode is selected by the Mode Dial, where the self timer is never on, regardless of the Drive Mode Dial.
Any ideas?

My solution was pretty simple. Camera would not turn on so I pushed the battery in manually, harder onto the contacts. The release spring was pushing it away from contacting properly. I used a piece of paper folded a few times to put between the battery door an the battery to increase the contact pressure. Will now clean the contacts on the batteries and in the camera as a further step.

My FZ100 won't autofocus unless I have my AF ultra wide 0.5 lens attached - then it work fine. Can someone tell me if I've altered a setting somewhere. The menu works just fine - except - the reset option is dimmed out and can't be accessed.
