Flash
Flash doesn't work
When photos are taken the flash will not extend from the camera.
The flash cannot be used in the following cases:
- (Night Scene) mode, (High Sensitivity) mode or (Fireworks) mode is selected in Scene Selection, select the desired mode.
- Shooting [Sweep Panorama], select the desired mode.
- Shooting in moving mode.
- Set flash to [On] when Scene Selection mode is set to Landscape, Gourmet, Pet, Beach, or Snow mode.
Screen
Images are unable to be displayed
The photos taken cannot be looked at again on the computer.
- Make sure the memory card is completely inside the camera.
- The file/folder name does not match up the name of that within the camera. Change the file path to match that of the camera.
- The camera is in USB mode. Take the camera off USB mode.
- Utilize [PlayMemories Home] to play the images in the computer.
- No guarantees are made for playing back on this camera.
Time and date are not displayed
The time will not show up and neither will the current date.
- The display on the screen is set to only display the image. Press DISP (display setting) on the control button to show the information.
Music cannot be heard during a slideshow
When using the slideshow feature the music will not play.
- The slideshow is set to “continuous playback.” Change this to “slideshow with music” then playback.
TV does not display the image that is on the camera screen
When the camera is connected to the television and the image on the camera won’t display on the television.
- Check “Video out” and make sure the video output signal matches that of the color system of the TV.
- Make sure the connection is correct with all the cables.
Battery
Battery does not display its correct percentage
The camera displays incorrect battery percentage.
- This can occur in cases of extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold. Go to a more moderate temperature.
- If alkaline batteries are used (sold separately), the percentage display may be incorrect. Use different batteries.
- The batteries may be discharged, insert new batteries.
Battery runs out of charge too quick
The Battery dies when it is not expected to die.
- The batteries may be used in an extremely cold area. Go to a warmer area of moderate temperature, or insulate the camera well.
- The batteries are out of charge, replace the batteries.
Camera will not turn on
Pressing power button yields no results.
- Make sure the batteries are inside correctly.
- The batteries may be discharged, insert new batteries.
- The batteries are out of charge, replace the batteries.
Camera randomly turns off
The camera’s power turns off randomly.
- The batteries may be discharged, insert new batteries.
- If the power save feature is set to “max” or “standard,” then the camera will automatically turn itself off after a period of time to save power. Turn the camera back on and turn off power save feature.
Rear Case
Loose case
The case doesn’t stay in position.
- Check if screws are loose/missing. Replace the screws.
- The rear screen is cracked/broken. Replace the screen.
Buttons not working
Pressing buttons is slow/unresponsive.
- Make sure rear case is secured and in place.
- If button is still not responsive, the button may need to be replaced.
Lens
The lens gets fogged up
Unable to see images clearly after image is taken.
- Turn off the camera and leave it for a while before turning the camera back on again.
The camera turns off with the lens portion extended
Unable to use camera even if the lens extended.
- The batteries are out of charge, replace the batteries.
- If lens is in motion, do not attempt to forcefully stop the lens.

whats the voltage requirements for the DCS H300? im wanting to use two 3.7 volt lithium AAs rather than Four, 1.5 alkalines, now i have Four 1.2 volt nickel metal hydrate batterys

6v minimal, generally 6.4 is what you want for optimal power.

Issue: I had the same issues. Camera would not open to shoot photos or movie. Would only come in in playback mode but on/off would not work.
Solution: After multiple reset attempt. I change the batteries to Brand new Duracells. Everything works as it should.. I was using cheap batteries. My assumption is the camera needs strong batteries since cameras are higher energy consuming.

I have batteries from camera’s Sony package, Sony Alkaline 1,5 V and the same problem… you changed them with Duracell also 175V?

Issue: I can’t set language, time and date. after entering this info and pressing OK, it says to go to Sony.Net for more info, that’s when I press ok and the camera switches off. I switch it back on and language, time date not saved. I can’t get Menu list to appear on screen when pressing menu button. I have tried removing batteries, switching off camera, removing sandisk and pressing other buttons. Any suggestions?

Inexplicably the problem is the poor AA batteries supplied with the camera. Talked to customer support. They recommended replacing the batteries. I put in some new duracels and problem fixed.

When I zoom in and try to take a picture, the camera cuts off. I don't know what it is, but it always cuts off when I zoom in and try to take a snapshot. How can I stop this?

Mine does this if the batteries are too weak to process all the info from a zoom shot, but strong enough to do a regular shot. I've found mine works best with the cheap Rayovac rechargeables from Walmart. Duracell rechargeables are good in it too, but the Energizer would barely turn it on before draining them.

I had all of my buttons freeze up on mine. It would only power on, nothing else. Even had to remove batteries to turn it off. Turned out to be my memory card. Put in a different card, no issues. Don't forget to check this if your buttons are freezing.

I try to set up the camera and it goes thru the setup comes to a screen about the PC software, I hit ok and it shuts off. I turn it back on and it goes back to the setup screen. My lens continually fully zooms every time the camera is turned on and will not zoom out, meaning I cannot use the camera. It was returned once previously for the same fault. Any ideas?

One of your gears in lens unit has broken, they do not sell just gears, must send in for repair. likely to be cheaper to buy a new one though

The zoom stopped working and so did the buttons for it, the screen is blurry and keeps saying shut camera off and then on. I don't know what to do, where can I repair it and how much will it cost, I'm really freaking out

I have problem with autofocus. It works acceptable when zooming over 10X, but it’s not posible to get focused images when zooming 1X to 10X.

i can’t get my camera chip to go back in its slot, its like something is in their blocking it from going back in!

perhaps a object broke off into the slot, it is common, look with a flash light to see if you can see anything then shake it out.

I just purchased the camera, brand new batteries. Iset up the language, time and date. It takes me to the screen that tells where to download Sony to computer, click OK it turns the camera off. I’ve tried it about 10 times now.

you lens unit is broken, send to a repair shop for repair, however due to cost of camera it will be cheaper to buy another.

I've only had this camera for two years and it came on in August. I have not used it since then. But now it won't turn on at all with fully charged batteries.

Are they at least 1.5v each? Not all new batteries hold their charge, use a voltmeter. This camera needs a minimal of 6V to work. After that try cleaning battery contacts with a type writer eraser

buy your self a memory card reader, take the memory card out and put it into the reader. it is also more reliable this way then using a cord from computer straight to camera.

Hello, you can try to push your lens unit back in alignment, look where it is cocked out and push opposite side. Sometimes that works, other wise you need to replace the lens unit motor or gear.

Put card in camera and format it through the settings. If it does not allow you A your card is corrupt, or B your memory slot is damaged. Try a new card for A if it still doing it, send in to repair shop for repair

Sounds like you are trying to take pictures in low light situations, this is a basic entry camera, low light quality pictures are in pro series level.
Blurry pictures come from the camera not being able to focus on an item, if you are in too low light and it can not find that item, you could also be taking the pic before it even focuses sounds like what ever you’re trying to use this for are quick and low light, both things you need pro series camera for. Check out the Sony A7R Mk iii for that performance.
If you do not believe it is above ^ then perhaps your lens unit is going back, usually the focus gear wears out, but youre describing more user error then camera error. ‘
