Computer Randomly Shuts Down
The laptop will occasionally turn off while running.
Overheating
The laptop becomes warm, restarts and receives a thermal warning. If this is the case, refer further down this page to the section, "Overheating."
Malfunctioning Fan
The laptop will have multiple parts that will fail and could start smoking. They need to be replaced. (future guide)
Faulty Power Supply
The laptop will not be able to hold a charge or receive any power. Plug in the laptop if the charging light does not come on, replace the charging cord. If the light does come on, replace the battery.
Computer Constantly Freezes
The laptop will become unresponsive while in use.
High-powered USB Issues
Are there any high-powered USB devices attached, such as phone chargers or gamepads? Try disabling USB Selective Suspend within the Power Options settings. Right click on the battery icon and select Power Options. Click "Change advanced power settings." Maximize the option USB settings, then USB selective suspend and disable.
Malfunctioning Memory(RAM)
Remove and swap the Memory modules on the underside of the laptop. Remove the center bottom panel and re-seat/swap the RAM modules in place.
Overheating
The laptop becomes warm, restarts and receives a thermal warning.
GPU Overheats
The GPU tends to overheat on this model laptop. Consider updating the drivers to the most current versions. These can either be found on the manufacturers website, or by visiting the device manager, right clicking the device and selecting update driver.
Debris in Air Vents
There may be dust or debris in the fans or vents on the machine. Spray the area of the vent with a can of compressed air to clean the area.
Black, Unresponsive screen
The laptop will power on but the screen will stay black and not respond to any input.
Failing Backlight
Shine a light on the screen, if there is a faint image visible then the backlight has failed. You will have to replace it. (future guide)
Loose Connections on the Video Cable
The cable may have come loose due to movement of the lid, or dust may have got into the pins. Follow this disassembly guide up to 6:06. Check that cable and replug it in.
